It’s a great reason to celebrate the Minnesota Zoo’s efforts to save critically endangered black rhinos. We work with Save the Rhino Trust and other partners in Namibia on one of the most successful black rhino conservation programs in the world. And just in time for World Rhino Day, our very own rhino expert is coming all the way from Namibia to give us an update!
Minnesota Zoo Conservation Biologist, Jeff Muntifering, grew up in Minnesota but spends much of his time in Namibia’s rugged Kunene Region. With funding from generous supporters to the Minnesota Zoo Foundation, Jeff works with local communities to secure a future for the world’s largest truly wild population of black rhinos. As rhinos in Africa face of an escalating poaching crisis to feed black market demand for rhino horns, this work is more important than ever.
We invite you to learn more during Jeff’s visit while he’s home! Check out Jeff’s interview on Minnesota Public Radio (91.1 FM) on the morning of September 22, then come hear him speak at AZUL’s Creature Feature on September 22 or at the Zoo’s Our World Speaker Series on the evening of September 29.
